From Plain to Polished: The Dramatic Transformation of a Television Centre Penthouse

Step into a world where thoughtful and inspirational designs meet impeccable craftsmanship as we take you through the journey of transforming a simple, plain penthouse in the iconic Television Centre into a masterpiece of texture, colour, and functionality.

 Lounge

In the lounge, we transformed a plain and uninspiring space into a warm and inviting retreat. We introduced recycled paper wallpaper, thoughtfully wrapping it around a door to create a seamless and cosy environment. The new carpet colour enhanced the room’s warmth, while carefully selected artwork added elegance and personality. The iconic Barcelona chair, now hand-painted with the client’s favourite word, ‘Love,’ in multiple languages, is a meaningful and unique centrepiece that reflects both style and sentiment.

 Dining Room

Moving onto the dining room, we focused on creating distinct zones to bring structure and intimacy to what was once a very open-plan space. To achieve this, we first added a tall, dark storage unit that serves as a subtle divider, effectively separating the dining area from the lounge. These clever designs help define the spaces while maintaining an open feel. We then introduced a tall, floor-to-ceiling bespoke storage unit that serves a dual purpose: it discreetly hides away everyday items while elegantly displaying the home’s beautiful artefacts. This adds functionality and enhances the room’s aesthetic, creating a refined and organised dining area that seamlessly blends form and function.

Furthermore, we added wooden panelling behind the sofa, creating a stunning backdrop that elevates the visual appeal and serves a functional purpose. The panelling was thoughtfully chosen to address the space’s acoustics, reducing the echo in what was once a very open and reverberant area. The result is a more intimate, cosy atmosphere where the design is as pleasing to the ear as it is to the eye

 Kitchen 

Moving onto the kitchen, we began by reimagining the wall units to create a space that’s not only functional but also visually stunning designs. We replaced the old, plain cabinetry with a mix of materials that bring warmth and texture to the room. The new design features bronze-wrapped doors that curve gracefully, adding a sophisticated touch that instantly draws the eye. To complement these, we introduced heavily veined marbles for the work surfaces, providing a luxurious yet practical element.

Incorporating woven cane into the design added another layer of texture, making the kitchen feel more dynamic and inviting. This careful selection of materials creates a rich, contrasting palette and ensures that the space feels cohesive and harmonious, blending seamlessly with the rest of the home.

 Kitchen 

The transformation continued with the kitchen’s centrepiece—the island. We replaced the previously small and uninspired island with  curvaceous, multi-functional designs that enhances the kitchen’s aesthetics and usability. This round island not only adds an architectural focal point but also significantly improves the flow of the space, making it easy to move around, whether you’re cooking, entertaining, or just enjoying a casual meal.

We also maximised storage, incorporating clever solutions to keep the kitchen clutter-free while maintaining a clean, open feel. Adding the repurposed coffee table top at one end of the island creates a perfect spot for drinks, nibbles, or casual lunches, enhancing the kitchen’s versatility and functionality. The result is a space that’s not only beautiful but also perfectly suited to the needs of a modern, active household.
