This penthouse redesign aimed to transform a standard, uninspiring open-plan space into a warm, functional, and visually stunning home by creating distinct zones throughout. By carefully blending luxurious materials with thoughtful design, the entire penthouse was reimagined as a cohesive environment where cooking, socialising, and relaxation naturally converge, making it the true heart of the home.

The Background

The original penthouse featured a conventional design with a white and grey palette that the homeowners found uninspiring. The open-plan layout, while spacious, felt disconnected and lacked the warmth and character that the homeowners desired. Recognising the potential of their home, they embarked on a complete overhaul, aiming to introduce rich textures, distinct zones, and practical solutions that would enhance the space’s aesthetics and functionality.

The Challenge

The primary challenge was to create a penthouse that balanced bold, luxurious design elements with everyday practicality. The homeowners envisioned a space that would incorporate a variety of textures—such as rich burgundy marble, woven cane, and wooden panelling—without overwhelming the overall design. Additionally, it was essential to define distinct zones within the open-plan layout, optimise storage, and improve the flow to ensure each area was easy to navigate and use. The design needed to seamlessly integrate these elements while maintaining a cohesive look throughout the home.

The Solution

To achieve the desired transformation, the redesign focused on creating distinct zones within the open-plan layout, bringing structure and intimacy to the space. Luxurious materials like rich burgundy marble, woven cane, and bronze accents were thoughtfully integrated throughout the penthouse, adding depth and warmth.

A key feature of the redesign was the introduction of a central, curvaceous island in the kitchen, which improved flow and provided enhanced storage. The overall use of bespoke storage solutions and carefully selected materials ensured that each penthouse area was functional and aesthetically cohesive. Wooden panelling was incorporated to address acoustics, adding a cosy atmosphere while maintaining a sophisticated look.
