Stunning St John’s Wood family home designed, decorated

The Project

The Challenge

Our clients moved to London from Japan, with their two sons. They stayed in a large rented property in St John’s Wood. The family was unsure how to furnish the spaces. Their  main dilemma was that they weren’t familiar with the UK home brands and where to source.

Our clients wanted to entertain guests, chill out as a family in front of the fire, yet  have space for the boys to be able to play. The essential part of the brief was to provide timeless and quality furniture that could be used all together in different configurations ensuring it could be used when the family moved again.

The Solution

Lounge Area

The living space, which was the central area of the home,  was what our clients struggled to visualise the most. Firstly, in order the create two obvious distinct areas we used the new Red Baron bookcase designed by Piero Lissoni for Knoll to create a partition.  This clearly divided the areas,  which allowed us to utilise one space for two purposes. We maxed out the space with a bespoke large corner sofa from B&B Italia.  Further, we matched a day bed, marble coffee table, side table and two gorgeous soft leather chairs.

Finally, we added extra hidden storage, to hide games and children items, which doubled up as a minibar. Moreover, we added a thick pile pile Farrow & Ball – The Rug Company rug that made the area super cosy.

Dining Area

In the dining area  we added  Knoll Saarinen conference chairs to maximise  comfort. Next, in the kitchen we added a large oval Saarinen dining table and Tulip chairs to optimise for family living. Finally,  we chose fabric for the seat pads to create a neutral space and to match the calacatta marble. In addition to providing counter stools for the boys to enjoy breakfast at the kitchen island.

Home Office

We suited out the home office to provide a space for both our clients to work. Furthermore, the office was given a cool contemporary feel utilising items from the Florence Knoll collection, such as the two-seater sofa, armchair and bespoke desks in a striking black marble. Finally the couple were given a soft pad Eames chair and a ‘his and hers’ Bert Frank table lamp to add to the mid-century modern aesthetic.

Bedrooms

In the bedrooms we provided furniture and dressings to maximise the space and ensure that the furniture would last the boys for a long time.

The Outcome

The result was a beautiful family home for everyone to enjoy. A practical and well thought out space that allowed the family to feel at home in their rented property. Utilising the spaces to incorporate their habits and daily family life. Ultimately providing beautiful spaces for the friends and guests to enjoy. A cosy media room for the boys to watch movies and play games. Therefore achieving the full brief of providing timeless and quality furniture for the family to enjoy for years to come.

We had a very broad request to decorate and furnish a number of rooms. Carly got right to work and provided us with various options and styles. She was very responsive to our changing asks, always coming back right away with a new option. Once we got all of our orders in, she was very good about following up with the suppliers and distributors in order to get our orders delivered as soon as possible. It was quite a complicated project, but she stayed on top of everything. She would come by to supervise installations, making sure everything was done right. The finished project looks fantastic. She steered us into the right choices and we are extremely happy with the final product!
