St John's Wood Family Home

Designed, decorated and furniture sourced exclusively by NW3 Interiors.

The Project

The Challenge

Our clients approached us when they moved to London from Japan with their two sons. Staying in a large rented property in St Johns Wood the family were unsure how to furnish the spaces. The main dilemma being that they weren’t familiar with UK home brands and where to source. The main area of focus was the large living space at the back of the house.

Our clients wanted to be able to entertain guests, chill out as a family in front of the fire alongside having a space for the boys to be able to play. The essential part of the brief was to provide timeless and quality furniture that could be used all together in different configurations ensuring it could be used when the family move again.

The Solution

Lounge Area

We started with the living space as this was a central area that was the area our clients were struggling to visualise the most. In order the create two obvious distinct areas we used the new Red Baron bookcase designed by Piero Lissoni for knoll to create a partition. Dividing the areas allowed us to utilise one space for two purposes. The main part was maxed out with a bespoke large corner sofa from B&B Italia. Complemented with a matching day bed, marble coffee table, side table and two gorgeous soft leather chairs.

Extra hidden storage was added to hide games and children items as well as double up as a mini bar. We also made the area super cosy by adding a thick pile Farrow & Ball – The Rug Company rug to fill the space.

Dining Area

The dining area was maximised for comfort, adding Saarinen conference chairs from Knoll which replaced the existing ones given to them by their landlord. The kitchen was also optimised for family living with a large oval Saarinen dining table and Tulip chairs. The fabric for the seat pads were chosen to create a neutral space and to match the calacatta marble. Also providing counter stools for the boys to enjoy breakfast at the kitchen island.

Home Office

We suited out the home office to provide a space for both our clients to work. The office was given a cool contemporary feel utilising items from the Florence Knoll collection, such as the two seater sofa, arm chair and bespoke desks in a striking black marble. The couple were given a soft pad Eames chair and a ‘his and hers’ Bert Frank table lamp to add to the mid-century modern aesthetic.

Bedrooms

Finally, provided furniture and dressings for the master, boys and guest bedrooms, maximising the space and ensuring that the furniture would last the boys for a long time.

The Outcome

The result was a beautiful family home for everyone to enjoy. A practical and well thought out space that allowed the family to feel at home in their rented property. Utilising the spaces to incorporate their habits and daily family life. Ultimately providing beautiful spaces for the friends and guests to enjoy. A cosy media room for the boys to watch movies and play games. Therefore achieving the full brief of providing timeless and quality furniture for the family to enjoy for years to come.
