The final outcome for this project was a light and spacious
lounge for the kids to relax and enjoy.

The Project

The Challenge

Our brief was to design a cool lounge on the second floor of this period home. Once we refurbishing our client’s guest room, bathroom, and lounge room, we were asked to transform the eldest daughter’s bedroom into the new kids ‘Knoll’ lounge. A cool, light, and spacious area that would be used as a secret hideaway for whatever a teenager desires to do. The space needed a new layout with furniture and soft furnishings.

The Solution

First, we found that we could utilise the existing shelves to house books, DVDs and homework. We then opened the space out by supplying a large Florence Knoll sofa in tan leather. A material that is easy to wipe and clean! Further, we used The Florence Knoll low credenza and two tall credenzas for more storage. This ensured the clean Scandi vibe was maintained without the interference of toys and games. The choice for ammonite walls with white woodwork acts as a classic combination.  Undoubtedly, this integrated well with the style of the period home but also tied in with the Scandinavian aesthetics the client was after.

We centered the sofa at the main back wall, which allowed it to be framed by the tall period windows of the home. Next, we added a Florence Knoll coffee table to the design to create a cohesive look. We used the same marble tops throughout. All of the furniture used was from the late Florence Knoll range. She was an incredible female designer and founder of Knoll.

Furthermore, we added ambiance to the space with the addition of a Flos Arco Lamp in chrome. This matched the white marble base.  Moreover, it created a delicate reading light over the sofa. In addition, we supplied a Flos IC table lamp for the credenza to add more relaxing lighting to the space.

The Outcome

The final outcome for this project was a light and spacious lounge for the kids to relax and enjoy. We mixed midcentury modern classics with a neutral palette.  Ensuring this worked with the existing period features was the key to making this design spot on. Ultimately, we believe we achieved this with our designs and look forward to seeing our clients and their children enjoying this new lounge area of their home.

My family and I have entrusted NW3 Interiors to design our home consistently for the past two years.  We have enjoyed discussing how we like to live with Carly, who translated this into; layouts, colour schemes, mood boards and a budget.  My husband and I really look forward to seeing the visuals and appreciate that Carly knows the brands and suppliers personally, which ensures quality and service.  Carly completely transformed the atmosphere in our lounge from a white space into a relaxing, lounging adult zone with bespoke bookcases and lots of gorgeous lamps and hand-made rug and most recently converted a bedroom into a new kids lounge. I was keen on Scandi style and Molly‘s skills soon gave us options of the room design to help us decide.  Our furniture was delivered on time and we couldn’t be happier, it’s super comfortable and stylish.  I am excited to start the next room with NW3 Interiors, as they totally understand my style and have consistently delivered exactly what we wish for.
