The Project
The Challenge
Following on from assisting this client with her family home in Primrose Hill, where we helped create a multi-use guest room and stunning bathroom, she asked us to redesign the first floor for her four children. The space lacked fluidity and didn’t cater for any of the children’s needs. The rooms were awkward and lacked character. Moreover, there was no storage to facilitate four teenagers! We pulled in our whole team. Spaced Out, our architects, helped design a functional and practical living space.
The Solution
Planning
The first challange was to get Planning so that we could utilise the existing decking space to create a new bedroom. We created a new layout to provide a new shower, toilet and four unique bedrooms. The toilet and bathroom were designed to echo the existing bathroom we installed downstairs. Here we utilised the same marble and white tiles to create a fresh and modern look. Next, the shower room was designed to facilitate all four children with an integrated laundry basket and ample concealed storage.
Bespoke storage
We collaborated with a talented cabinetry maker who brought our ideas to life. She created bespoke units for storage throughout the first floor, working from our original designs and mood boards. These fitted perfectly into the scheme and client’s requests. The decor was then chosen for the bedrooms, again to create a sense of flow throughout the home. We used soft oaks and grey tonal woods with black trims to carry the Japanese inspired theme. Immediately, creating a narrative from the oak kitchen/living space to the first-floor bedrooms. This theme was mirrored up the stairs and in the hallway where we chose a new beige carpet with dark trim. Designing storage was a key element in this space to cater for each children’s needs, so clothing space and spaces to chill out with friends, study and do homework was all critical.
The Outcome
Once the designs were finalised and planning was approved, our trusted team of builders got to work. Creating this stunning family home in a short time frame. Whilst working on the first floor we also noticed their lounge was looking a little lacklustre. We curated a package to create a more cosy and inviting ambience in the space. We added a large Knoll footstool, extra armchair a reading light, a floor lamp and hand-stitched Arte wallpaper. The final result was a cool space that felt finished and catered for the needs of the room for the family.
