Rosie and her boat-loving partner Steve have a fabulous home overlooking a bay on the coast in Guernsey. When they decided to update their kitchen and create an open-plan lounge and dining area, they asked Carly to provide design ideas, create a colour scheme and source the furniture. Carly visited their home and started deciding where and how to use the budget, where and why to add colour through decoration, and importantly, where they could save money, for example by modifying their dining table rather than buying new.
Four rooms required furniture: the dining room, kitchen, open-plan lounge and bedroom. Suggesting a mix of design classics along with silk wallpaper to add to their existing theme, Carly gave Rosie and Steve the style they were hoping for… classic, quality and nautical. Carly advised on where to add texture, detail and plain neutrality. The matte lacquer media and TV unit was purchased from B&B Italia and placed against a dark blue silk wallpaper from Fromental. Wall lights and kitchen pendant came from Secto in a wood to match the floor.
Guernsey residential project – living area
The cream Ikat rug from The Rug Company added softness with texture in the bedroom. The couple wanted to keep their existing grey sofa so we added a slate console table with oak to keep it light and airy. This beautiful large oak coffee table was sourced from B&B Italia with the top sections in the same matte lacquer colour as the TV unit. A portable bio- ethanol fire from Vanui sits in the lounge for cold winter evenings and moves outside for the summer months.

Design classics included sofas from Knoll, outdoor chaise from Cocowolf, bar stools from Cherner, Wishbone chairs from Carl Hansen, lighting by Tom Dixon, and Eames aluminium office chairs by Vitra. Moving to the dining area, the existing dining table was cut down and the base painted dark blue, which had Rosie exclaiming “You’re always so on trend!” Throughout the experience, Rosie sent images over for design advice. Carly gave ideas on many aspects of the build, such as materials, proportion, pricing and paint, even in areas she wasn’t designing herself.
After the initial furniture showroom visits in London, Rosie and Carly arranged a trip for home accessories and bed linen at Heals, The White Company and Conran. NW3 Interiors has trade accounts in all of these stores, which gave Rosie the security that she didn’t pay over the retail price and the pieces could be tied out in her home. Rosie was happy with the combination of colours, textures and layouts, which worked well for her family living. The products will last a lifetime, which is the peace of mind you get from quality brands.
Here’s what Rosie had to say…
“I recently used NW3 Interiors to help source and advise on design furniture for my home.. Carly was amazing. An expert in space and what dimensions for required furniture. Her commitment to the project was continual and her service impeccable I strongly recommend NW3 for all aspects of a luxury design service.”
